Privacy Policy for un—dash
Effective Date: May 31, 2025
un—dash is a Chrome extension that helps users clean em-dashes (—) from text in real-time to make AI-generated content appear more natural. This privacy policy explains how we handle your data and what permissions the extension requires.
Information Collection and Usage
This extension is designed with privacy as a core principle:
- We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal or sensitive user data
- All functionality operates locally within your browser
- The extension may log certain actions to the browser console for debugging purposes, but these logs are only visible to you and are not transmitted anywhere
- No data is sent to external servers or third parties
Permissions Usage
The extension requires the following permissions to function:
- activeTab: To detect and modify content in input fields on active tabs.
- clipboardRead & clipboardWrite: To clean copied text by removing em-dashes.
- storage: To save your extension ON/OFF setting locally.
- contextMenus: To provide a right-click menu option for cleaning em-dashes from selected text, enhancing user accessibility and convenience.
Permission Justifications
Each permission is used for specific, limited purposes:
- contextMenus: This permission is used to create a right-click context menu option that allows users to quickly clean em-dashes from selected text. This provides an alternative method to clean text beyond automatic detection, giving users more control over when and how the extension operates. The menu is only active when text is selected and does not collect or transmit any data.
- activeTab: Required to access and modify the content of the current tab where the user is working. This permission is only active when the extension is enabled and only affects the currently active tab.
- clipboardRead & clipboardWrite: Used only when the user explicitly copies or pastes text, to clean em-dashes during these operations. These permissions are only used when the user performs copy/paste actions and the extension is enabled.
- storage: Used solely to remember the user's preference for enabling or disabling the extension. This data is stored locally in your browser and is not transmitted anywhere.
Data Security
Since the extension operates entirely locally and does not collect or transmit any data, there is no risk of data breaches or unauthorized access to your information. All text processing happens within your browser, and no data leaves your device.
Third-party Services
This extension does not use any third-party services, APIs, or remote code. All functionality is self-contained within the extension itself.
This privacy policy may be updated from time to time. Please check back periodically for any changes. The effective date at the top of this policy indicates when it was last revised.
